Bingbangbong offers a range of instrument and custom design services to the theatrical, performance & movie industries and to academia.

 Client summaries below

Clients include:-

STOMP

lfo_horns.jpg From the end of 2005, Paul worked as instrument design consultant with the creators of Stomp, Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, to create new and unusual instruments for the world premiere of their new production, the Lost and Found Orchestra [LFO].

The general concept was that if Stomp was the percussion section, then what would the rest of the orchestra look like?

ImageCity of Ember Movie

emberlogo.jpg Bingbangbong was commissioned to create 'improbable' instruments for Tom Hanks' New Production City Of Ember. The film stars Bill Murray, Tim Robbins, Martin Landau, Sorcha Ronan & Harry Treadway.

The Initial brief consisted of a great drawing by Will Simpson and a quick chat with Gil Kenan & the creative team. and prodices a range of conceptual examples then several prototypes and the final instruments.

"Your work is astoundingly good ... If i have any further making of instruments, you will be my first choice. "

Celia Bobak Artistic Director

The movie is due for release in Late 2008

Tap Eire

tapeire.jpg I'm delighted to announce that I am now working with the show Tapeire and its creator James Devine to generate some new sounds for his amazing feet -

There is some video available and here's some blurb about the show.

"A unique new way of expression created by James Devine, the world's fastest dancer clocked at 38 taps per second. TAPEIRE fuses the raw improvisation of Rhythm Tap and the percussive sounds of Irish dance in surprising new ways....

Southport Flower Show 2007

I am delighted to be working alongside Tatton Gold Medal winning designer Andy Kirman on a show garden for Southport 2007. This is a unique garden

Proposed design for Southport Flower Show; August 16th to 19th 2007:

Southport Flower Show Show Garden 2007: Artists Impression

The theme for the 2007 show was 'Music'. From the start, Andy's idea was for music to be the driving force behind the garden concept. This ended up being taken literally as the water feature within the open water area at the front of the garden is powered directly by music making the water dance! This technical piece of wizardry has been created by Paul Marshall from BingBangBong.

Paul has been fascinated by the effect of sound on different substances for years; this collaborative project with Andy offers the opportunity to put into practise a long term design to make water dance using only sound. The phenomenon is called cymatics. The water 'dances' to a specially composed soundtrack. This soundtrack is designed to bring out a range of patterns and dynamics in the water.

Southport Flower Show Show Garden 2007: Artists Impression

Like many of my designs, the garden is an outdoor room in a contemporary style which is not only chic but practical and most of all a space to chill out.

I enjoy the challenge of using both interesting and traditional materials in innovative ways within gardens. This garden is no exception. Recycled CD’s form a bridge across the moat to the decking, brightly coloured resin bound material covers theSouthport Flower Show Show Garden 2007: Artists Impression lower deck area whilst the back and side walls are made of screens to replace traditional fencing panels.  Marbles are used both decoratively and as a safety device to warn people under foot when they are near the edge of the decking.

Southport Flower Show Show Garden 2007: Artists Impression

The planting is a mixture of architectural foliage and colourful perennials in oranges and browns, with floating plants carried by the flow around the moat on an endless journey. Even the low level coffee table has interesting planting within it.

Terms of Business - Guarantee PDF Print E-mail
Business

This page sets out our terms of business, our guarantee plus clarification regarding the conditions under which it is offered. Your statutory rights are not affected.

Purchase of bingbangbong equipment indicates agreement to these terms & conditions unless expressly indicated otherwise in writing.

Guarantee

  • All bingbangbong products are sold with a standard one year manufacturer's guarantee on item manufacturing and design only.

Order confirmation

  • All customer orders will receive a confirmatory response setting out the exact order details and indicating any 'free' elements to be included.

  • Please advise us within 24hrs if this is in any way incorrect as your items are constructed from this list and your invoice is based on these details

Liability

  • All items are covered within the UK by £1,000,000 Public & Product Liability insurance

  • Items shipped outside of the UK are not covered by liability insurance and we require that clients waive any bingbangbong liability and indemnify bingbangbong or its agents against claims arising howsoever caused.

Limitations of Use

  • Products are intended for use only in a musical / sound exploration / sensory experience context.

  • Items are robust and constructed to be 'over strong' for the intended use, they are never intended to be used for climbing or other forms of 'misuse'. No responsibility is accepted for damages or loss arising from misuse.

  • With normal use and exposure, items should be functional for many years, many of our products have an indefinite lifespan.

Installation

  • Installation advice offered is general advice and does not account for your exact local conditions.

  • Installation should only be carried out by an approved playground installer.

  • Bingbangbong accepts no responsibility for any harm or other effect whatsoever arising from installation or siting.

Deliveries

  • Items are usually delivered on a 'next day' service using a national courier.
  • Please note that by signing for the items you are accepting them in the condition in which you have received them. We guarantee that all items shipped from bingbangbong are in pristine condition unless described as 'seconds' in your dealings with us.
  • We fully understand that it takes a few minutes to do so,  however YOU MUST OPEN THE PACKAGES AND VERIFY THE CONDITION OF THE GOODS BEFORE SIGNING FOR ACCEPTANCE. Once you have signed for the goods, you have accepted them 'as-is', the insurance requirement is deemed to have been fulfilled and there is absolutely no come-back with the courier company.
  • If you intend to reject the goods because of transit damage, please call bingbangbong 028 91470989 before the driver leaves and if possible take a photograph of the damage to send to us before the driver takes them away again.
  • Unless there is a manufacturing or design defect covered under our guarantee, Bingbangbong is under no obligation to replace goods that you have accepted if you have not checked them before accepting them. It is your responsibility to check proper condition at the point of delivery.

Billing terms

  • As a micro-business bingbangbong is extremely sensitive to cashflow.

Before your goods are delivered to you we are required to purchase raw materials, process those in-house and/or out-source specialist services to create the final product. Our suppliers and service providers are paid before we receive your payment and therefore we rely on prompt payment to keep your order and the orders of all other customers moving promptly. Most items are delivered within 3-4 weeks unless you have ordered a custom item for which you will receve an estimated delivery date.

With the growth of the business, our small cash and borrowing reserves come under significant pressure. To alleviate such pressure and to speed up the provision of our goods and services to you, we offer different billing options to meet with the majority of customer systems with which we interface

  • Prompt Payment
Standard Website Price less 10% discount  - Payment with order or an invoice for the full order value is issued for immediate payment. Goods are shipped immediately after fabrication if payment has been received.

Theft & Vandalism PDF Print E-mail
Benefits

One method of protection - makes it out of Stainless Steel - albeit at about 6 times the price of PVC

As you might expect, permanently installed instruments and pieces can be vulnerable to abuse such as attack and theft unless the site is protected.

Most bingbangbong items can be upgraded to provide increased levels of protection against theft and vandalism. Some, such as the PVC Batonkas which are recommended for non-vulnerable areas, can be recreated from more robust materials. They are beautiful also, but very expensive.

Our instruments generally are much, much stronger than the use requires, simply because material and construction used to deliver extreme weatherproofing inherently provides such robustness. Unless otherwise indicated, bingbangbong warrants fitness for use as sound play and sensory items only.

Many instruments are made from high grade aluminium or Stainless steel. Stainless steel is in global demand, particularly from emerging economies and prices rise on an almost daily basis - it is expensive to buy and is becoming moreso. It is also difficult to work so we subcontract our Stainless welding work to trusted fabricators with whom we have a close working relationship.

Stainless Throughout

The use of stainless steel and other metals in abuse-resistant pieces is intended to provide protection against casual attack and general long-term use by the public, it also provides supreme resistance against the weather. The tubular structure of many pieces offers optimum integral structural strength

Powdercoating on aluminium provides a coloured layer that is protective against wear and tear and aluminium corrosion, ALL B3 tubes undergo an extra preparatory technical step to make them optimally suitable for external use. If the paint gets chipped the metal underneath is still protected.

The coloured finish is tough, similar to an automobile finish. Standard powdercoated colours have a 'Florida one year guarantee' which means that they can endure Florida UV exposure for one year. The equivalent in UK exposure is approximately 5-7 years, after this time, the paint colour may fade slightly, and is to be expected. It will not interfere with the functionality of the instrument.

Security Solutions include:

  • Custom made stainless support structures
  • All stainless hardware
  • Adapted stainless fixings and fittings.
  • Nuts requiring special tools to undo
  • Nuts fixed in place using a chemical weld
  • Nuts' edges ground away
  • Nuts that spin
  • Shear nuts
  • and more

The aim is to make it as difficult as possible for the casual vandal or thief to damage or steal the items unless they come with tools that are appropriate for the job. If they do come 'tooled up' using the same types of tools I would use to undo or even just to cut through elements, then I am afraid that there is nothing more can be done in preparation.

Vandal 'resistant' is NOT vandal 'proof'. No absolute warranty or assurance against vandalism or theft is given, nor should one be inferred, a determined vandal or thief will succeed.
