A couple of questions if you don't mind__________________

These Stainless Steel snakesare installed in a public park in the Brandywell area of Derry City. This is part of a 'conversation piece', my own name for a group of sculptures that permit communication.

The snakes all interconnect via an echo chamber buried within the ground. The effect of this is to add a sound effect to the users' voices as well as providing a short delay (echo) onto any sound that is made into the tubes. Each snake will also provide a tuned resonant space that will emphasise certain ambient frequencies, all one has to do is listen.

Marimba with Ash KeysMarimba with Ash KeysThis is a 2 octave (Visit Pelodaiko page) pentatonic marimba style keyboard with keys made of ash. The photos were taken when it was under construction. It is destined for a local NI school.

I have another underway that is being made from another Bushmills Whisky barrel, it looks and sounds great on the workbench, I can't wait to hear it completed.

    PlateworksPlateworks

    • PlateboardAluminium plates are one of the most versatile types of material for an instrument builder. Any note or combination is possible. Instruments are made with and without resonating chambers.

    • All plates are anodised for permanent outdoor protection

    Oddities

    Water FluteWaterFlute / Liams Pipes

    • I originally called this a water flute however Evelyn Glennie tells me they are called 'Liams pipes' after the inventor.

    • A water triggered fipple flute taking inspiration from the pre-columbian whistling jar.

    • I made these for Stomp in 2m diameter and they sounded amazing however the R&D preparation time was insufficient to bring it to performance build quality - yet!

Bendudu moreSound Seat Bendudu - this one belongs to Evelyn Glennie

    • A work in progress, part drum, part udu, part pitch-bender, part ocean drum, part seat.

    • This Stainless Steel instrument is capable of a wide range of sounds and uses. Bendudu

    • This Particular instrument now belongs to Evelyn Glennie

Than majority of commissions thus far have used my 'conversation station' design principle where tubes are interconnected underground and permit for communication over distance with a particular acoustic effect.

These can get somewhat complex which is great fun to design

This particular range of products is made 100% from Stainless Steel because we know and trust that it will do exactly the job that we need it to. We can use galvanised steel if you like which would be cheaper but has a definite lifespan. We are happy to take your instruction
